DAY 24 IN HAWAII: LOOK OUT HONOLULU! HERE I COME!!!!

Note: On mobiles there may be large gaps between pictures. Just keep scrolling down. If you get an error message on the videos there is probably also a link in the error message telling you that if you click the link you can view it on youtube. The videos don't seem to work on all web browsers.

Aloha!

Yesterday we had to say goodbye to The Big Island of Hawaii and head over to Oahu. I didn't like The Big Island at first, but once we took the time to drive around and see the sites it grew on us. I do recommend that if you travel to Hawaii you download an app for each island called "Gypsy Guide". They have a different one for each Island (except Kauai) and it cost about $14 but is well worth it. As you drive around the islands it uses GPS to track where you are and makes excellent suggestions as to where to stop enroute and places it thinks really aren't worth the stop. It is incredibly accurate and will say things like: "There is a scenic view stopping point around the next corner but I would skip that one" or "the next scenic stop is one you don't want to miss but drive slightly past it. There is better free parking there and then walk back about 200 ft". It really is phenomenal.

I had skipped dinner the night before (not good) but we had groceries we had to finish up before we left so we kind of had dinner for breakfast. It was rice and chicken and veggies and an egg.

It's a good thing we had a big breakfast because the airport in Oahu is small. There is only one restaurant and there were only two, pre-packaged, food items left to eat. This was what our options were:

I am not an advocate of skipping meals by any means but given the options we had, skipping lunch just made sense. We weren't really hungry anyway.

By the time we got to our hotel and settled in it was about 4pm so we just decided to go for an early dinner. Our friend (kind of like a sister as she is my ex's step sister) Jennifer Thatcher has been to Hawaii five times and suggested we go to a great Udon place around the corner. It was the right choice. Soooo good! Thanks Jennifer!

Then we walked over to Waikiki Beach. It's about a 7 minute walk.

The one thing that had surprised me about Hawaii thus far is that the I have seen very few of the "Hawaiian Bodies" one sees on the television. That is until I got here. Holy crap! No matter what sex you may be interested in the bodies are hard to ignore. I'm a little worried I might get arrested for leering while I am here! These are some pictures and videos of our later afternoon in Honolulu. The pictures from above are taken from our hotel room balcony on the 36th floor.

I just love the picture below. I wish I knew these guys so I could send them a copy of it.

Next year's Christmas Tree?

Considering yesterday was a "travel" day it was a pretty darn good day! :-)

Aloha!

Alan
